The Department of Air Quality of Wyandotte County is the
only full service local air quality agency in Kansas.
Our Mission is to provide clean air for our community. Our staff of environmental engineers and scientist enforce state and federal air quality regulations as well as
local air regulations. Our Permitting Division issues complex air permits to new facilities or existing industries who propose to construct or modify an emission unit and have the potential to increase air emissions over a certain threshold. Our Compliance and Enforcement Program conducts annual inspections of air pollution sources to determine compliance with air regulations and permit requirements.
Our Air Monitoring and Analysis Division operates a network of gaseous pollutant Monitors that continuously measure and record levels of air pollutants. Weather data is also collected and used to help evaluate daily ambient air quality. This network is used to access our air quality and to make sure we meet EPA national standards for healthy breathing air. This group coordinates closely with the Mid America Regional council and other state and local agencies in the region to insure that good ozone date is collected and reported.
The Department of Air Quality (DAQ) devotes a fair amount of resources to conducting public outreach in the community. This is particularly true as we struggle with ozone issues. DAQ works with the community on indoor air quality problems and supplies educational materials and consultation to citizens with problems. DAQ is involved in a number of committees and workgroups at both national and regional levels to up on critical issues and provide input into directions. Clean air benefits all the community with respect to human health and
aesthetic enjoyment. |
