Since 1997, the Children's Mercy Hospital Environmental Health Program (CMH-EHP) has provided patients and the general public with resources needed to identify and reduce environmental exposures causing or exacerbating health problems in children.  CMH-EHP works closely with families of children with respiratory health problems and assesses their homes for environmental contaminants, allergens, and other "asthma triggers."

The CMH-EHP has expanded and now includes 4 areas of activity: Patient and Family Environmental Health, School Indoor Environmental Quality, Provider Education and Training, and Community Outreach, Education and Training.  The CMH-EHP is a regional training center for the National Center for Healthy Housing and offers a variety of courses and and training activities related to asthma and allergies, indoor environmental health, healthy homes and healthy schools.

For more information on our programs and traininig opportunities, you can contact Erica Forrest by email at:

Children's Mercy Hospitals and Clinics - Asthma Management and Environmental Health

Children's Mercy Hospitals and Clinics is the premier pediatric hospital in the Midwestern United States and has a 100 year record of service, community outreach, partnership, advocacy and research, all in the interest of bettering the lives of children regardless of ability to pay.
CMH is the community leader in pediatric healthcare and education, and is recognized as one of the top pediatric hospitals in the country.  Child Magazine included CMH on its list of the top ten U.S. children's hospitals, citing CMH's innovative asthma/ environmental health program as one of the reasons for its high ranking.
CMH and CMFHP were awarded the 2005 EPA "National Environmental Leadership Award for Asthma Management"
and the 2005 Asthma and Allergy Network Mothers of Asthmatics "Making a Difference Award."   These awards recognized CMH and CMFHP for its comprehensive approach to effective asthma management utilizing a variety of partners and strategies for helping families of children with asthma.
