Every day 53,000,000 children spend 70% of their day in 110,000
schools. Of these buildings, 31% were built before World War II, and
43% were built from ~1950 – 1970. For these 110,000 schools, 20% or
22,000 facilities have poor air quality. At the same time, it is
expected that ~6000 new schools will be built in the next 5 years.
Since these are the buildings where our children spend up to 70% of
their day, it is critical that we look for the best strategies for
constructing and maintaining these facilities as the healthiest
environments they can be.
